BARNEY CRAIG MINE

Obvious adit next to the Carr Shield Bunkhouse, formally the mine shop a mile from Carr Shield village.  The long 1100 yard (1000m) adit leads to workings that connect to the far reaches of Rampgill Mine. It may be possible to undertake a through trip from Rampgill to Barney Craig which involves an abseil through a trapdoor. On this explore we went along the main adit as far as a dig site after which the water became deep in a low tunnel and there was a risk of excess carbon dioxide.

WARNING: There is a risk of bad air in this mine. An air monitor is recommended.
