CAMBOKEELS MINE

Impressive adit in yard just off the main road between Eastgate and Westgate, Cambokeels Mine (also called Cummock Eals Mine) was originally mined lead during the third quarter of the 19th century.  The mine was re-opened in 1905 and worked on and off throughout much of the 20th century for flourite with the most recent production taking place from the early 1970's to the mid 1980's.
Outside the entrance the main's tramway ascends a loading ramp from where wagons were emptied into lorries.
The entrance is gated but how secure?
