CAPELCLEUGH LOW LEVEL

Obvious entrance by the large car park at Nenthead, Capelcleugh Low or Horse Level is a part of the larger Capelcleugh Mine which gave access to numerous working such as Capelcleugh Vein, Black Ashgill Cross Vein, Brigal Burn Vein and others. Lead was mined here and later, when the Vieille Montagne Zinc Company of Belgium moved into Nenthead in 1896, zinc was mined here.
