HARTBURN MINE

Adit by a large waterfall in small valley north of the main road between Eastgate and Westgate in Weardale.  A straight horse
level leads from the entrance to where unfortunately the mine is collapsed some 200 metres (220 yards) in.  Much of the miner's
tramway is still in situ and near the entrance a cart can be seen rusting away by the stream.  Well worth a visit if only for the
stunning location of this mine.
