Middleton in Teesdale

At the heart of Teesdale is the small town of Middleton in Teesdale, a  market town with plenty of green, open spaces.

Middleton in Teesdale The town expanded in the 19th century when the London Lead Company moved it's northern headquarters here from Northumberland.
North of the town are a number of mines which can still be seen from
the road and public footpaths.  These mines are on the Raby Castle
Estate and access to explorers is restricted.
A railway line running north from Barnard Castle terminated at
Middleton before it was closed as part of the Beeching Axe.
The town is on the Pennine Way.
