Romaldkirk
Village
in Teesdale not far from Middleton. The name is believed to have
been derived from that of a little known Anglo Saxon saint, Rumwold.
Other people to have originated from the village include the
civil engineer, Thomas Page, who designed the
| Westminster and the first Chelsea Bridge across the River Thames in London. Romaldkirk
was served by the Tees Valley Railway which had a station here. The
line was closed to passengers in 1964 and to freight the following year
as part of the "Beeching Axe". There are two pubs in Romaldkirk, The Rose & Crown and the Kirk Inn which overlook the large green with it's set of stocks. The church is a Grade 1 listed building with parts dating from the Anglo Saxon era. Originally
in the North Riding of Yorkshire, Romaldkirk has been in County Durham
since the local government reorganisation of 1974.
